Understanding Order Numbers vs. Transaction Numbers

How Order Numbers group all purchases together, while Transaction Numbers separate frames, lenses, and accessories within the order.

Order Number

  • The Order Number is the overall identifier for the entire purchase.
  • It captures all transactions related to a customer’s order.
  • Think of it as the "folder" that contains everything a patient purchased in a single checkout session.

Transaction Number

  • During checkout, you’ll notice a three-digit number on the right panel (and in the order details view).
  • This is the Transaction Number.
  • A transaction groups together products that belong to one Rx eyeglasses or miscellaneous item.

Each frame and its associated lenses/add-ons get their own transaction number.
Even non-prescription accessories (like a cleaning cloth) would appear under their own transaction number, since they are independent of RX eyewear.

Why This Matters

  • Organization: Makes it clear which frame and lenses belong together.
  • Flexibility: Allows multiple RX orders in a single checkout.
  • Accuracy: Helps avoid confusion when sending orders to the lab
